Health Eating for Teens

Did you know that eating lots of fruits and vegetables can help you feel good and look great? Fruits and vegetables not only provide your body with much needed vitamins and other nutrients, they are also a good source of fiber and are low in fat and calories.  Fiber is part of the plants that our body cannot digest.  Fiber helps curve your appetite so you eat less. Try to have at least 3-4 cups of fruits and vegetables everyday.  Start with one serving a day and then add to it gradually until you reach your goal.  Here are some tips to help you increase your intake of healthy foods.

Healthy snack ideas:

  • Baked potato with chives and Parmesan cheese

  • Banana topped with yogurt and cinnamon

  • Fresh figs

  • A cup of blueberries

  • Frozen grapes

  • Carrot with peanut butter

  • Raw zucchini strips

  • A cup of vegetable juice such as carrot juice or tomato juice

  • Celery with peanut butter

  • Dried fruits such as mango, apricots, or papaya

  • Steamed broccoli flowers

  • Raw veggies with hummus

  • Plain yogurt topped with fresh fruits
